Default Electrode gap Escos plugs **updated agaiiin**

Hey,

Brand new Motorcraft plugs bought at FORD have a gap of 1,1 ??!... def. not correct.
Anyone know the correct gap for a 100% standard Escos Small turbo ?

Some say 0,7 others say 0,8 ...

Cheers
Thomas

I would have thought 0,8mm but book says.....
Standard power eec4= 1,0
Standard power T34=0,8

I tend to always run 0,1mm smaller than recommended though

Hi

I set mine to 0.7mm.

I tried Champion 59's and set them to 0.85mm. The car backfired almost every gearchange.

kenny.

Might have been a tad fast on saying, that all was ok ...

When I floor it ... the car hesitates a bit, but only the first time .... when flooring it afterwards, it is gone and everything is fine...

Will pull 'em out and make them 0,8 instead....

AGPR12PP are gapped correctly as standard for the T28 Escort.

You will probably find you have insufficient power supply to your coils. Its very common.

You should never ever need less than 0.8mm on a T28 cosworth, in fact, ive recently run the management at 380 bhp with 0.8mm gaps, no problem, period.

Any ideas on a BT EsCoss..20psi..Dark Greens...

My car ran spot on, then my plug gaps were changed and it missfires on full load, only sometimes though, more often than not if it's cold..?

I'm not sure what they were gapped to before. I think it's about 0.7 just now..

hi stu what voltage should be at the coils should it be battery voltage and what normally causes the low voltage at the coils ?

Stoo. 0.65 max for you mate.

Voltage should be battery charging voltage. Shite looms are the normal cause mate, best to rewire a new ignition live spur. Easy enough.

cheers stu i checked the voltage at mine today and replaced the dodgy wires at the same time the voltage at mine when the car was running was about 13volts but the voltage at the battery was 14volts do you think that is good enough voltage to not cause any problems

well .... now the gaps are 0,8 on my agpr12pp plugs and the car still doesn't run correct. It's better than before, but when driving on the freeway in 4th og 5th gear and then giving it full throttle, it chugs a bit when coming on overboost..... it only happens when it hits just about max boost.

If I change the gap to 0,7 it should dissappear (it did last time) but now we are pretty far from standard gapping.

Is there any downside to gapping smaller than what is correct in the book ?

STU mentioned something about rewiring a new live ignition spur .... how is this done ? ... might be the only good solution.

I have tried to clean the EDIS module and the 2 big multi-plugs between ignition leads and EDIS. Cleaned good with contact-spray, but no change.

Its most likely a poor positive supply to teh coils. Check it with a meter.

Theres no real problem with 0.7, but your just masking the symptoms, not fixing the fault.

Cheers STU.

I will measure all 4 tonight with a meter.
Would rather have it working right, than changing gap to 0,7 again ....

Have just measured.....

Battery voltage is 12,5 when car is off, 13,88 when car is at idle.

I then measured the plugs at the two coils .... one was 11,88 and the other was 12,04v ..... is this the problem ???
