Default Hairy Scary morning

Lost the brakes on the car, luckily I was in traffic, could have been fatal. Managed to get car to mates garage on the hand brake and hazards.

Pedal went rock hard... Lets hope its electrical and not mechanical failure or its barclays and a ski mask,

Probably looking at the ABS hydraulic pump's fuse and/or relay - sounds like you hada brown pants moment - mine went when the mechs were rolling it into the garage - only just missed parking it in the back wall!

Oh yes...it was definely a moment to remember. I check fuses on road side quickly, couldn't see any bust ones. But hopefully garage will.

as above, mine had the same sympotms:
there are 2 smallish red wires that go into a red over sheath from the pos term of the battery, mine had rotted off under the insulation - it was only when performing a 'waggle' test it showed up and the pump started working again, chopped the 2 wires back about 6" and soldered new ends on - right as rain after that - must have been causing it to go poo braking effort for some time.

Isnt there a multi plug under the dash near the fusebox with black and yellow wires in it that is also something to do with the brakes...some moody bstard in my car has cut the wires and soldered directly into the ignition wiring.. would love to know where these black and yellow wires are supposed to connect into.

I have a similar problem, although I have replaced the motor and can here it working. The pedal is still rock hard, and wont go down.

Will be interested in what your problem and cure is, as it could help me!

Thanks, and good luck,
Gav

Ok for those of you who wanted to know what was wrong with my car. After a lot of testing and checking of currents. The problem has turned out to be the fuses in the boot near the ECU, they were rotten and falling to pieces due to moisture. Thats the second time I have had a problem with damp there.

Does anyone else know about this damp problem? Is it a problem with Escorts. Maybe a separate post will help...

mine was always dry as a bone in that area, it COULD be due to the sunroof gutter pipes may have split of come disloged that run down and out of the vents - (the white diagonal bit in the pic )
