Default Carbon Fibre Steering column

Anyone got an exotic steering column.
Carbon / Titanium or something.

My column weighs 7.5kg, thats got to go.

Need to lose 5kg of that.

hmm

you are from germany too? But you are crazy with what you want.

Loosing weight is okay, at parts where you can take it of, or better where it makes sense!!

Hi Sim

I live in Germany, but I'm really Scottish.

The idea might be crazy if I was to weaken the steering column, however all the weight is in the switch part, it includes springs and all sorts of other bits. The column is also extendabe, so theres also extra metal there.

At the moment I will install a single steel tube from the quick release throught a bracket with bearing. The whole system will have 2 Universal joints so it will collapse partly in a big shunt.

All the DTM cars and I think some WRC cars already have Steering columns made from Titanium and Carbon.
Certainly F1 cars have.

Ok my car is NOT near the standard of these cars, but no harm in a lttle thinking and development.

An alternative would be an original Gp A column.

Go on a diet and lose the 7.5kg that way - will be cheaper as well .

Hi Mike

I'd have to cut off almost a whole leg to lose that much weight. Ok, so I put on 3kg at chrismas time, my wife keeps on reminding me, but I'm sure I'll be back to my racing 82kg before easter.

Is 82kg too much weight to get another lap of the Ring?

You need to lose 7kg so the balance of the car is perfect .

Your car is bordering on the obsessional - when it's finished, it will be going in a glass cabinet at this rate .

Did you cry? I would have blaa'd my eyes out and that would have just been as a spectator . That's why you rally lot are fruit loops in my eyes . Trying to drive at 60mph on water isn't a good idea .

Hi Ian

looks good, just the ticket.

did you use a 5/8" or a 3/4" inner steel tube?

send me the drawings and I'll copy it. How much for the drawings?

save me some time.

by the way, glad to hear you got the car fixed up, I cringed when I saw the video.

regards

Kenny.
