Default Escos buying

I have been considering this for the past 3-4 months, and have decided that i will be buying one, but it must be a std un molested car!!

Got a few questions though, do the Cossies suffer from rust as bad as i think they might, read recently of folk buying "unwelded" shells and frankly id be horrified if i was spending between 10-16k on a welded car!!

Other than that i want one to keep, always have and i think if i get one now, i wont lose any money if i have to sell it?

best of luck finding one, you should not find one with rust as most are cherished. if it is mint expect to find some history of paint ( front end, wheel arches are prone to chips ) but don't let it put you off. my car has been completely repainted ( but that's cos I'm fussy and black is hard to blend !!!

these don't generally rust, but check the battery tray and round where the body kit fits. ( check the water drain on the rear spoiler / sills work and the rear post of the upper spoiler for cracks )

buy the best you can afford and get some one who knows these cars well... ( there's plenty poor examples out there but most are cherished ones )

getting a std one is now hard, most will be at 300 ish bhp or stage 1 ( 270 ish ) this is not a prob as the cars are sooo over engineered to start. just make sure it has full history inc any mods if you go that way..

best of luck fella....

Thanks Dennis, will be looking around within next few months, house purchase goes thro first in march

I wont dismiss a modified car, but i would want all std bits with it, like wheels lights etc.

Just dont wanna blow what will be my second biggest ever purchase on a dog

When your ready just make sure you take someone with you who knows about the escos. Plenty to pick from buy one sooner rather than later as prices tend to rise in the spring/summer. As dennis said getting harder to find std ones but they are out there just got to look at as many as poss, and don,t rush in.

All the best with the hunt!!

Cheers guys, i cant believe im doing this as ive been a VW nut for years!!

I will wait till the right car comes up, but it cant be before my house, as i dont want to borrow cash till my mortgage is settled!!

I can see 2007 being somewhat expensive

Escort Cossie will be worth it though

Hi mate are you after a totally std car or just good sensible stuff done, ie Koni's, Exhaust, wheels ect? There was a guy selling a really lovely one but the car had stuff done to it, Trevcos in the fella, if its still for sale thats the one id be going to look at for sure, seemed a real good'n! I think a escos with sensible mods are much better than std unless your going concourse that is.

im afraid they do rust check front arch lips, bottom of boot lid, sills and around petrol cap/flap,also battery tray etc,i know trevs as mentioned above, and it isnt totally standard, wheels exhaust etc,but is a good genuine car and you wouldnt go far wrong with it

all i can say think with ur head and not ur heart...look over it then look over it again then look over it again....there are lots of nice well looked after examples out there but there are also alot of dogs so take someone or even better a few people that KNOW what the are looking for, also make sure u hpi it and get all papework/receipts for work carried out on it and make sure its got fsh, also try and get acar with low mileage or a good rebuild with receipts to prove!!!! .......if something aint right WALKAWAY, do plenty of research look at lots of examples and U WILL find the car of ur dreams also when u find the right car haggle good on price these cars sometimes dont sell quick being specialised cars and the person might want rid quickly for some reason (..i.e the wife giving an ultamatum me or the car ..laughing but IT DOES HAPPEN!!)and u might get a good few ŁŁŁ off .....goodluck with the search

Thanks for all the feedback guys, really helpful.

Not a total novice but when it comes to these im clueless on the bad points, but a friend of mine has one so i think he will be my knowlegeable bloke!!

TBH as much as id like to go and buy one at the moment i cant till the house goes through But i would prefer a std/very slightly modded car, lights wheels etc but id also like to get the original things with it

Thanks again fellas
