Testing the future
basically, the chip on the right is the eprom that contains the program that the ecu runs to make the engine run, including the fuel and ignition maps, corrections etc.
those eproms are very cheap to buy and cheap and easy to copy. so after a while of various tuners modifying the contents of the original eprom as programmed by ford, there were many copies being sold cheap as chips. obviously the tuners that done the original hard work didn't like this, as they usually didn't see a penny from those sales.
that's where pectel came in. they reverse engineered the software, and then encrypted it before programming the eprom. that meant that if you were to put that chip into a standard ecu, it would not run properly. it needs to be plugged into a pectel board to unencrpyt the program from the chip to the ecu. that meant that you had to buy from a tuner to get the matched board and chip which kept them in business.
it also meant that tuners had to buy software from pectel to be able to connect to the ecu and alter the maps to tune to different specs.
hope that helps with the mystery a little.
what it will not tell you is anything about the maps on the chip that you should know so that you know what fuel to run, how much boost you can use etc. but as yours are clearly marked up, you should be able to find all of that out from the original supplier
