Hi EsCosRacer

I heard up to 140bar, (> 2000psi) but cannot confirm.

I would also like to know as I want to remove the current belt driven pump and replace with an electric pump.

see
www.pirtek.co.uk

hose from 10 bar upwards

sorry to hijack post but might also interest you.

Do you know anyone who has completed this mod?
Removed belt driven pump.
Installed electric pump on bulkhead and extended hoses slightly.

I heard I might need to replace the original rack? (to work with an electric pump).

reason,
improve efficiency of engine.
save weight.

Kenny,

I have seen it done on several uk cars...Pete Doughty, DPE someone whom i'm sure you've heard of ran an electric pump for the power steering and centre diff on his Silver Esc WRC car....

This car

I think you might getting confused with lots of current installs of powered columns from Corsa etc these are where a conventional (non power) rack is used with a powered column..common on lots of big power MK2 escorts, Manta's etc

If you use an electic P.S. pump you would retain the standard rack arrangement but feed pressure from the electric pump....

As you know i'm a little passionate about weight loss myself but the electric pump, extra pipework might incur more weight than either a standard or uprated belt driven system and power loss is very minimal from the belt system....still worth considering the electric route though

We run a two stage single shaft WRC pump for both the diffs and steering and that is very light....

HTH

Yep I have heard the name and have considered the DPE gearbox conversion.

The electric steering column requires too much electronics so thats out.

Conventional system.
One thing I was surprised about was the weight of the steel bracket used to support the Alternator and of course the pump. did you ever take it off and hold it?
It was the weight of all these parts together that I was looking at.
I would of course like the bracket to be Alu and the alternator to be a 2kg item.

I would like more WRC parts on my car but my wife is burning my ear with the amount I have already invested.
9 events this year, 6000 miles.
1 accident, in crash barrier.
1 new rear axle.
2 wings
1 front panel
1 wrc front bumper
1 broken propshaft
(only 1 trophy, bloody 3rd place!!!) you could say I Love Racing...

or I'm crazy.

(ps what is the weight of your car now? next year mine will be 1060kg)

Kenny/Micheal,

I have been so busy with the business I have not had much time to actually weigh the car, although we tested last Thursday and we compete in our first rally in the car on Sunday....

The cast steel bracket is weighty, and we use the 909 cast aluminium bracket....as you say Kenny significant weight saving....

Thankfully I have a very very understanding Wife who has tolerated motorsport since we met....

The P.S. system is not at 90bar continuously, it only shows high pressure when resitance is present i.e. on full lock or restiance from other forces during steering...

There is a significant pressure drop across the rack and we mount our cooler on the return side....air to oil coolers work ok but we use a laminova water - oil cooler to stabilise all oil temps....I have had problems on some rally cars in cold ambients running air-oil coolers on the p.s. where the p.s. oil becomes too cold, this is equally as bad as it overheating....

You can see the two laminovas on the front x-member the l/h cooler is for the p.s., the other is the gearbox....

I estimate the car with the FFD box and all the other diffs being magnesium cased should weigh 1100 Kg's but hopefully a little less....

good luck with 960kg, I will be impressed if you can achieve this. You will need a lot of Magnesium, Titanium and Aluminium parts. Not forgetting a lot Kevlar/Carbon Fibre.

Did you find a good shell yet? I heard its still possible to buy a new WRC shell complete with weld in cage for 15000.

what is the weight of your escort at the moment? any pics?

It shouldn't be difficult for you to find a suitable hose from the 'pirtek' website.
