Default help - bonnet wont open!

after taking my car to a 'braking specialist' yesterday, i have discovered that the damn bonnet wont open and the bonnet release under the steering column has lost tension and cable seems loose.

I have taken out the front grille to reach under the front sill but for the life of me cannot open the bonnet. I tried pulling the cable from under the column to no avail. I think a bracket has broken and therefore has no tension to open the latch.

Apart from using a very large crow bar can anyone help?

Have you tried getting some one to push down on the bonnet while you pull the lever. Bizarre but it some times works. Steve

The wire has probably broken, go to your Ford dealer and order a new wire and plastic lever.

To open your bonnet now, get some pliers and pull the wire underneath your steering column.

ossie cossie

Hi mate, I have a Sierra Cossie and live in Sydney. Whereabouts are you?

Steve Escos
Thanks for the advice, tried that, and yeah, it has worked before on a previous car of mine. No luck this time.

JHS
Yeah tried that one, and unfortunately didnt work

Good news though. I went to my friendly local mechanic who services dad's car and BINGO!

He got access under the slam panel and with a screwdriver popped the bonnet. Found out the bracket for the cable had popped out and caused a slack cable.

Thanks guys for your help anyways
