i have just baught a set of escort cosworth alloys,
but i have no idea what size tyres to get for them,
i want the the lowest profile i can get but without
spending a fortune

Well the smallest tyre you can have is a 195/40/16. This will not fit on the 8.5" rim.
Next is a 195/45/16- again no good
Next you have 205/40/16- would be well too stretched.
205/45/16 is a weird looking thing...don't bother
Smallest fit would be a 215/40/16 but it would need to be a quality tyre as a budget one would nt stretch and seal so goo.
Yokohama 215/40/16 A539 ideal at Ł60 inc VAT.

You're better off just sticking with the original 225/45/16 tyres for the standard cossie alloy, its looks better. I have them on my cossie and they look well mean.
I have the lower profile 225/35/18 on my spare Rondell's, a size 35 or 40 series tyre looks better on a larger alloy.
