mk5 rs2000 gear stick
hi lads
new to this forum normally on the capri ones as thats my pet but got the rs2000 for a daily drive to work etc. i tend not to mess about with it to much as my moneys for the capri do the maintenance and all that but just keeping it standard.
so my problem which has just happened tonight is that the gear sticks went real sloppy all and is all over the place. it has been notchy before sometimes needing a bit of force to get into gear previous owner said its a plastic bush/guide that wears so am guessing thats gubbed??? anyone else had this problem had a look under the car it seems fine dont want to start messing about with it too much till the weekend as i need it for work tomorrow.
cheers

got the gear stick off just now had a look n cant see much just round ring that stick slides in and allows you to select gears.
will have a look on ebay. is it possible to rebuild it?? and what is it that normally gives up in the selector unit am guessing a guide or bush something like that??

If the bush is shot you be able to see that - but if the shifter looks ok and moves around fine you may find the fork selector in the gear box is on the way out ?
