urgent help please
hi all sorry to be a pain in the ass but have mega probshave a 1600i engine in my caddy as turbo engine bloow up and set fire not had the money to replace engine .ecu. turbo. lume ect ect and i was lucky to pic rs 1600i up for 200 pound ,so put this engine in for the time being . any way the head on mine has started to tap far to much so im trying to fine out wot to do next.
ie,new lifters solid, rs 1600i std camknow i can get a cam kit from burton engines but just dont have that sort of cash as cam and lifters are 360 pounds would i be abe to fit xr3 cam with hyd lifters insteed as iv seen a xr3i cam on ebay for 70.oo skwid and i have a new set of hyd lifters in the shed some were.anyhelp with this would be great as i need to get back on the road a.s.a.p as it is driving me mad thanks all

If its got the mechanical ones fitted (which it should being a 16i) then they probably just need resetting. The 16i workshop manual says this should be done like every 3000 miles or something, so quite possible this is what you need to do.
The other option is to simply replace the mechanicals with a new set of hydros. Many people will tell you you cant do this and should replace the cam as well. but in reality unless its a high power engine its makes no difference.
In fact about 70% for the RSi guys on the rsi on tour forum are running hydros with no trouble at all.
An easy fix and wont cost you very much money, especially if you just adjust the mechanical lifters in there!!
