Default Tea and Coffee

I understand this isnt good for me, but i was wondering if someone could point out just how bad it is in scientific terms. ie calories and fat content.

On an average day i get up and have a cup of tea, go to work and have about 6 cups of coffee during the day when i get home il have maybe 8-10 cups of tea between 5pm and 12pm. I have my tea with a tiny drop of semi skimmed milk but 2 sugars, coffee with 2 spoonfuls of coffee mate and two sugars.

I know thats quite a bit but i suppose its down to boredom if ive got nowt to do and if i didnt make a cup of tea id probably make a sandwich instead (although the tea might be worse)

Cheers.

There are a couple of issues......

The first is the caffeine, the second is what you put in it (full fat milk, sugars etc)

I actually rely on coffee to give me a boost every now and again and I am partial to a nice cup of tea, therefore I don't restrict their intake. I will probably have 2-3 cups of each a day.

However, I do also drink 4 litres+ of water a day.

And yes I go to the toilet a lot.

Caffiene can dehydrate you. A good indicator is the colour of your piss. You want it to be as clear as possible. If its dark yellow then you are severly dehydrated.

Paul.

so is caffeine essentially bad for training etc?

I drink around 4 cups of black coffee per day with no sugar.

No...As Paul has said a strong black coffee with no milk or sugar can enhance your training.

Caffeine is also put into tablets to help boost metabolism, but heed warnings from Stu as he has suffered from too much caffiene. I believe too much can cause hypertension which is also a precursor to heart attacks in extreme cases.

A couple of cups a day and/or before your workout is fine.

paul, ever taken those brown capsules of Ephedrine, Caffeine and aspirin?

Used to take them before a session back in the day...

Also going back in the day when I was studying for my Sports Science degree I remember reading some studies of Caffeine being an ergogenic aid. Basically it has also been shown to increase the release of fatty acids into the blood stream during exercise.

So basically grab a strong black coffee before that long cardio session and you will increase the amount of fat burnt.

There you go Stu, I did promise to look in and contribute!

I hope I remembered correctly or the studies aren't now disputing the earlier findings

P.S I love Muller lite yogarts, get a pure orange lolly and dip that in a Vanilla one for an awesome little after dinner treat.

Ephedra, Caffeine and aspirin put my training partner in hospital for 2 weeks with a blood clot in one of his kidneys they have now removed the Ephedra from Stack 2 that we used to use, I still have half a tub. It was ment to suppress your appetite but never worked for me, I just kept eating.

As for Tea I drink Green tea and leave the bag in, its an acquired taste!
