Default Eating and Training... what order?

A very basic question i suppose to the pro's but its one i would like a definitive answer to.

Is it best to eat a main meal BEFORE an hours Gym or Swimming or some time AFTERWARDS?

Also, if we have to eat first, how long should we wait before training?

I prefer

If Solid meal- 2-2.5 hours before training
If Nutritional Shake- 1-1.5 hours before training

But the most important time to eat is definitely the post workout meal after intense training.

I always try and have the main meal after training.

I have lunch at 12
Protein drink at 2:30/3
Train @ 5
Main Meal 6:30

Eat too close to training or swimming and you'll puke.

However, if your circumstances mean you have a meal before you go training in the evening, try and have something light and maybe just a protein/meal replacement drink after you train.

So if you are training to lose weight, doing mainly CV, is it still ok to eat about half an hour after training? As some "expert" told me today that if i eat straight after my workout then i have just wasted my time training and i won't lose weight

Can someone please explain when is the best time to eat and also why?

Thanks alot

If your training to lose weight my guess you are probably making
changes to what you are eating anyway.

So in theory you are'nt taking in as much crap as you were, so if you have done a hard c.v workout you will be feeling really hungry the advice i was told is to eat around half an hour after training.

There are loads of things that people will say but the basic rule that im following is.

If your hungry have something to eat ie :- fruit, nuts anything that can fill you up till one of your man meals. If you dont eat and starve yourself you wont enjoy it and will be more ready to give up all the hard work

Hope this is any help to you

Nocole.....to help with loosing weight and fat loss.

No.1 You have not wasted your time training and then eating as some so called "expert" has said!! it depends on how your days calories have been put together.

No.2 You can get better results by following these examples.

Work out your calories from the previous posts then put these into six small meals throughout the day, With plenty of water.

The Best Option to burn FAT "this is the weight you want to loose - Do the cardio in the morning on an empty stomach, this will utilize more fat to be burned as fuel from your overnight fasting than any other time, work up to 45min depending on your fitness level at 70-85% of your max heart rate. Then eat a meal 45-60min later.

Or if you can't do the morning the second best option.....

Any other time. Eat 2-3hours before Cardio work during the day see how you get on. Reason being if you eat to close to your cardio work you will not burn as much "FAT", this is due to the meal you have just consumed fueling your workout. Then eat 45-60min after.

The above is to loose weight and burn FAT not for endurance or performance related training.

Just remember you must eat so consume your six small meals as this will also boost your metabolism which in turn will burn calories along with your cardio....& loose weight!

Hope that helps.
