Swimming and muscles....
Ive been swimming today and wondered, since i am aching so much now Is it quite a good exercise for actual upper body strength as i kind of expected it to be a pure CV excercise i must admit.
It has to be said though, its great to feel totally out of breath as though ive done myself some good and still have ZERO back pain

swimming is low impact cardio
i use it as a form of warm down after the weights, tis very good exercise as your whole body is supported during by the water.

Those swimmers don't get those shoulders and chest from just the weights
Its a very different movement. Weights usually follows a set path, up-down etc. Swimming is a different movement so you will see some benefit just from it being a different movement.
And if your back it fine then you are definatley onto a winner. I think you can buy webbed gloves to increase resistance Flippers is cheating though
