Default Home Equipment

What equipment would anyone recommend I should buy for home use as I really want to start weight training but more often than not cannot make it to a gym due to work and home commitments. Also is there anywhere you can recommend buying the equipment from?

I started out with a Dumbbell and Barbell set from Argos. If you have room I suppose you could get a multi gym, but it will never be as good as a proper set of free weights.

If I was forced to train in the garage I would have a bench, set of posts for squats, an olympic bar and a variety of weights. With this you can train everything.

So if i'm reading this right I don't need a multigym? To start with a good set of free weights is the way forward with a bench?

Ok what sort of bench? I looked here and there's hundreads of different ones! Benches

As for free weights would these be ok? Free Weights

Ok Paul cheers for your help so far

I'm going to buy these Free Weights unless anyone can see a reason not to?

I'm undecided on the bench though, I don't really no what the difference will be in terms of quality and the way (if any) it will help me work out better. These are the ones i've seen Bench1, Bench2, Bench3, Bench4 and Bench5 The main thing I can see is the squat rack on Bench5 but is it worth it in terms of quality etc?

Actually the fifth one is a good allrounder and it has the extra arm curl(preacher) bit too.

If you had the money, Id say free weights, power rack, bench, in that order.

The problem with the squat rack on that bench is that it doesnt have safety bars. So, basically, you cant go anywhere near a 1rm attempt. Because if you should fail a rep, youre likely to get stapled to the floor. In the power rack, of course, youd be saved by the pins. Not to mention, of course, all the attachements you can get for power racks, plus all the extra exercises it allows you to do.

Ronnie doesn't use a power rack for squatting he just employs 2 people to stand next to him .

Anyway, if you go anywhere near one rep max's in your garage, on your own you are asking for trouble .
