Default Cracked elbow joint after 15mph bike crash.

Might aswell start at the beginning.

Been competing in my 1st ever race series called Brownbacks. This is based at Lee Quarry 4 times a year.

On Sunday we had our last race which consisted of around 18 miles of XC riding, plenty of technical desents and climbs.

2.8 miles into the 1st lap I turned the corner for a small desent with rocks around 4-5 inches big, pedelled but the momentum of hitting a rock and my weight being over the pivot point I decided to have a rather painful face plant conisting of the following injuries:

Above left eyebrow bruised
Right cheek bone bruised
Chin gashed open
Tooth nearly through lip (2 stitches inside mouth)
Both knees bruised
Right elbow bone cracked near ball
And various small scrapes and scratches.

I expect to not be able to ride for around 3-4 weeks, has anyone got any hints and tips on how to make the elbow heal without any long term affects of clicking joints etc.

Also exercise for the joint to get it back to strength?

Thanks in advance.

Phil

Usually the hospital give you some exercises to do. They did with my wrst but if I'm honest it did fuck all.

If I was you I'd just not rush it. Could alwyas see your doctor see if he has advice?

Get better soon anyway matey

Cheers Daryl, seen the Physio on Thursday and they have told me I need to repeat the following.

Repeat arm movement back and forth till either I get bored or the pain starts.

Also twist my wrist as the crack is on the inner side of the arm.

Just a pisser as the weather is brilliant at this time of year for riding.

Gives me time to start looking at getting a new lid and elbow pads

Got my first phsio appointment on Friday. Not sure how this will go as I have been moving the elbow for over a week. Not 100% at the moment, say around 80%.

Pissed off as it has held me up on actually keeping up the mileage and fitness.

Since I have been off the bike a couple of KOM on strava have been taken so I hope to get them back.

I broke my elbow 10 years ago..

I was given a collar and cuff and told to start moving it as soon as I could stand the pain. Was basically told the more and earlier I could move it the more movement I'll get back.. I've got about 95% movement back now but no clicking.

The only thing that give me trouble now is DIY when I use a screwdriver, just that twisting motion..

It really is one of those injuries that you can control the outcome of, the more you are prepared to hurt yourself with the movements the better..

Had a physio appointment on Friday, she said exactly the same thing. Also gave me a stretch band to move the wrist.

Asked her does she think I am ok to cycle? She said road yes just wear a pad for that elbow. No off road for atleast another month.

Made up to be honest as i've done near 100 miles since Saturday.
