I need to shift some weight im currently 6 foot and 16st 7. I have joined the gym but i have recently had an acl reconstruction so whatever i do needs to be gentle on my knees for a couple of months. Advice on diet would be helpful as well

Leave the weights alone for a while and concentrate on weight loss. Cycling, cross trainer, running, stepper, rowing, swimming.. Whatever your gym has. Try to keep your heartrate around 120-130bpm.

Surviving lol. Aches a lot at the end of the day
Have been doing a little weights. At the gym I use you get a little key that that tells you what you have done calories burned etc and weights seem to burn more. Is there any truth in it.

Weights help a lot with the weight loss.
I started out 16st 7lb at the beginiing og Jan and am now at 14st 2lb due to a healthier diet and plenty of exercise. I have entered a triathlon in June as an target so amy training six days a week for that and one of the best things has been the swimming for an all over workout after hitting the weights.
Keep it up.

Cheers mate, all you need is the motivation to get to the gym as often as possibe and it will fall off.
I have also invested in a turbo trainer that the push bike straps onto so that I can do some cycle training at home in the evenings as well that is certainly helping.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Nice one on the weight loss!
If your still suffering from joint pain try Glucosamine Sulphate tablets from Asda or the likes.
They help relieve joint problems.

Not too bad its holding me back a little on some things. I have just started a bit of light jogging for the first time in 8 months that should help hopefully i just wont do to much of it. As daft as it sounds the worst part is walking up and down stairs.
Cheers. Someone else mentioned the tablets i will look into them.

Paul,
Keep on plugging away, it doesnt matter if you stall for a couple of weeks as long as you dont give up. It could be that you havent lost weight but have lost mass and gain lean muscle.
I am down to 12st 11lbs now but am in the gym six days a week so instead of trying to lose weight on now concentrating on toning and reducing the body fat content.
Well done on the loss so far.

Hi Paul,
Glad the weight is coming off and that you're making progress
I thought I'd just throw in my 2p worth as to how I've just shifted 2 stone without going near the gym .....
Lots have mentioned using the gym and I noticed you mentioned jogging (even though you have an injury!!), well I have done the gym for many years and 3 years ago was very fit and at an ideal weight but I got quite (read very!!) ill at that time and once I recovered I couldn't back into it, I paid my years gym membership and went twice!! So I decided to start running and did a couple of half marathons but found it all quite hard on my joints so I binned that off, anyhow I managed to get back into not exercising and on my return from hols in mid Aug this year I weighed myself and I was 88kg (I'm happy at around 78!)
So I decided to start walking to and from work every day (rain or shine), my route started at 1.7 miles and now I am on a 6 mile round trip with a diversion to take in a couple of decent hills both ways, I also have 1.1kg wrist weights and a backpack with 6kg inside, I'm now 75kg and pretty happy with the way I look. My point is that I have lost 2 stone relatively easily with no expense whatsoever and no problems with my joints
Keep up the good work dude!
