Default can someone define calories and fat?

a man is allowed 90 grams of fat per day and 2500 calories.

now if im right, the more fat you eat, the bigger your stomach will get in time, but what are calories defined as and what do they do?

also what is better to burn off at the gym? calories or fat?

on the running machine i aim to burn 500-800 calories in one run depending on how i feel? how much fat burned does that equate to?

how i've always seen it, is you have good fats and bad fats (mono carbs and complex carbs)
mono carbs being the ones you want as its easier for the body to burn them off (where you get your energy from)
complex carbs are what they say they are, its hard for the body to break them down so it takes longer, thus giving you layers of fat that take an age to shift.

i think gyms offer to tell you how many calories you've used up, mainly for people on calorie controled diets ie this piece of cake is 40 calories you have to do x amount on this machine to burn that off.

as long as you keep what your eating simple its easy enough to know what kinds of carbs/proteins your taking in, as things can get very complicated very easy.

1 gram of fat = 9kcals
1 gram of protein = 4kcals
1 gram of carbs = 4kcals

Split diet by approx: 35% Protein, 50% Carbs, 15% Fat

Basic Rule of thumb:
A)Multiply your weight in lbs by 16 to get YOUR amount of calories to maintain weight.
B)Don't forget to take into account the calories you burn training. Add this to A

C)Add 500kcals to gain weight, subtract 500 to loose from the above total.

Simple

People think its rocket science. It isn't.............

Go by calories, burn off more than you consume in a day and you will loose weight!!!

Ok, is this right?

Im 13 stone, so thats 182lbs.

182 x 16 = 2912

2912 - 500 = 2412.

So if i intake less than 2412 calories per day i will lose weight?

Cheers.
