Right team im in need of advice

Right team im in need of advice
Right fella`s im needing some help.
First my diet is shite, i need to loose a bit of weight, im 6ft and 14 1/2 stone, i was doing well and could get it down to about 13st 12 but its fell away again
I play football for 2 hours twice a week and its really good, the problem is a tore the ligaments on my ankle and havent played for 7 weeks, i drink quite alot of beers at the weekend and usually take aways
First off i no all that needs to stop which i think i can do, i just need to no the right things to eat at the righty time
Now i no it sounds stupid but i get really mixed up with carbs and protein ect, which are good and which are bad, when you eat them and when you dont, could someone clear this up a bit for me please
Second is the weight training, i`ve just joined a gym tonight but i dont have a routene worked out, my work during the day is pretty physical and im pretty strong but i would like to improve on it
So could someone help me choose a right diet while try to tone up a bit please, any help at all is more than apreciated,
also what are creatine caps like, my mates says they help but i havent a clue what they do or how the help, also any info on what shakes and stuff are best wouls really help
