Here is a list of all the basic old school exercises needed to build a routine from.

Chest

Bench press (flat)

Dumbbell Press (flat, incline, decline)

Great Thread and list paul, it will help alot of people chose which works for them best, Whats the betting someone with try em all at once and be in the gym for 5 hrs.
Its good the experienced guys are giving good advice, Im pretty new on here and like you been training since god was a lad, so its nice to give summat back.

I take it the front lateral raisers are just that, raising your arms up in front of you. I've seen people doing these. Some do both sides together, and some do on arm at a time. Can I ask which is best? I do the side and bent over, so I may do the three?

aye thats the one. been doing these for a while with good results. i personally do both sides together but i don't think it matters really. just means the set is done quicker (i'm not rushing the reps) plus it encourages me to maintain form and a slow constant movement with me having to raise both arms evenly. i used to do dumbell side lateral raises both arms together aswell but developed a pain in my lower back so just do single arm cable side laterals instead now with no problems. going to start doing both arms bent over dumbell side laterals aswell

great topic paul. very helpful list. some i already do but some i will add and substitute into my workout

really feel that burpees should be in the list.. It is one of the best high intensity exercises..

Burpees is more of a cutting exercise rather than a building exercise .
