Default Stopping Smoking

Admittedly, I guess it's been done to death, but I wouldn't mind nailing the habit, wondering if any of the recent ex-smokers could tell me how they coped with the problems I always have when I try :

1) Snacking on everything, and literally wandering round the kitchen trying every tin, usually twice an hour
2) Putting weight on due to 1)
3) Getting to sleep at night
4) Having a drink (My social life revolves around the pub, I only have a couple at night, but still)
5) Stress and loss of temper. Bad enough with this anyway.
6) What the hell are you supposed to do with your hands?
7) Having a TERRIBLE day, going and getting rat-arsed and buying twenty Embassy after half an hour and 3 pints.
8) Concentration levels

I think if I could find answers to some of these, I'd have a lot better chance. The gum tastes disgusting, the patches annoy me, the books are mainly patronising and useless, and the doctors keeps claiming to make me appointments with his lot but never does. So I guess it's up to me!

Cheers!
Steve

1) Snacking on everything, and literally wandering round the kitchen trying every tin, usually twice an hour:
when i was smoking i found i could only eat very little and often, as u know smoking supresses your apatite so its only natural to feel hungry more often. now i'm eating 3 large meals a day and always up for seconds. If u find your self hungry try drinking a glass of water instead, could be just dehidrated.
2) Putting weight on due to 1)
i'm a skinny cunt so i'm happy to put on a few pounds
3) Getting to sleep at night
never had any problems with sleeping so cant help
4) Having a drink (My social life revolves around the pub, I only have a couple at night, but still)
only way round this is not to drink, can still go out and have a coke instead, i know it dont sound right but for the first few months i simply couldnt drink, beer and fags just go together but if u really want to stop then u dont want anything adding to temptaion. aslo try and stay away from smokers, alot of my mates from football smoke and is always hard to say no when i'm offered one
5) Stress and loss of temper. Bad enough with this anyway.
smoking actually isnt the best way to combate stress, most of the time i found i was getting wound up more mainly coz of the redrawing nicotine in my system, i actually found after a bit i was getting less wound up by silly things that before i would of flipped out over.
6) What the hell are you supposed to do with your hands?
now this is hard, always find my self playing with pens.
7) Having a TERRIBLE day, going and getting rat-arsed and buying twenty Embassy after half an hour and 3 pints.
go home get changed and go for a run or another sport that u can take your frustration out on, end up burning off all your stress and energey and will feel 10times better.
8) Concentration levels
well i'm ADHD so dont know if i'm the best person to ask about this try and keep your self busy if u got something to occupie your mind your less likly to think about smoking

hope this is some help, but like people have said got to have will power, if you dont want to stop u are wasting your time. try getting your mates to stop aswell, its proven that stoping with others is a lot easer than doing it on your own, if non of them want to stop try the NHS stop smoking service.

Steve, go and buy a book called "Allen Carrs easy way"

Best book you will ever read. Period.

It doesnt use ANY scare tactics at all, and THAT is why it works. It instead conditions your mind to understand the cravinga nd actually ENJOY teh feeling as the craving slowly dies.

Sounds wierd, but worked for me, as Paul said, 60 a day for 10+years

Also worked for my sister, her ex fella, and quite a few mates.

Cheers Stu, Book is on it's way courtesy of Amazon... £5.39

PP : http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...302060-8062217

I can't stand these scare tactics, they tell you how much damage you've done to your body, it just makes me think 'oh well, what's done is done, might as well carry on' Maybe it's me, but it doesn't even work slightly...

I'm not quite in your bracket (30/day or so), but still, needs knocking on the head while my body still has a chance of half-repairing itself :/

Hope it works well for you mate, when i was 1/2 way through i was feeling a bit of a fooking mug for smoking, and there were no tactics, just truths about my social habits... embarassing, you will see. lol
