Help with diets, weightloss etc....
Lee's (Porkie's) recent success with losing weight has prompted me to do something about my state aswell - I'm 6ft 2in, but weigh about 15-15.5stone Not overy fat, but it would be nice to see the buttons on my jeans as I do em up
But! I have no willpower, think that sandwiches are the best thing ever invented, and in 2 weeks will be going back to working on the road again, which makes it difficult to keep to specific diets - as 90% of the places I am able to stop and grab something to eat (don't get time for sit down lunch breaks) will be sandwiches, rolls, KFC, MacDee's, Burgerking etc...
So whats a fairly easy diet to stick to for my type of life? Coming home and cooking fresh meat with veg/salad that sort of thing isn't a problem as such - pop into Tesco's on the way home and get a couple chicken breasts or something..... But it's out on the road during the day thats the issue... Can I eat kebab meat?
Whats the "yes" and "no" of food groups? IE, no bread, no potatoes, etc, plenty of meat, that sort of thing... I don't know what TYPE of meat I can have, what way I can and can't cook it....
I don't have time (or money to be fair) to do the gyms, so my exercise will mostly be during the day at work (fitting glass into cars is pretty phsyical so I'll do plenty of walking and lifting etc), and what I'd like to do is shed a couple of stone so I look better and then start swimming again, on my days off I used to go to the local pool and take in a couple of hours, and I miss that. But I'm too self concious now, and also, nowhere near fit enough to do enough that it makes the difference, as I get knackered too quickly
Another thing that has prompted me in this is last week, a girl I used to go to school with (who is a year younger than me at 23) went on holiday last month to Austrailia - and fooking DIED of a heart attack She was 23, didn't drink, didn't smoke, played a lot of sports (captain of the hockey team her whole way thru school, got half a dozen torphies for swimming and stuff). I smoke way too much, not too bad with drinking (max 3 pints a week unless out at a do or something) but do no exercise and my heart and arteries are probably fucked
So anyone help me?

I'd make up a packed lunch based on what you suggested. Get yourself a couple of decent tupperware boxes and make up chicken salads, pasta and tuna that sort of thing so you don't have to resort to fast food. Also avoid fizzy drinks and take plenty of water instead.
I quite like the low fat pasta meals tesco's do. These are good when you are on the run. They're not ideal, but they're better than a 1/4 pounder.

One problem - I seriously hat pasta and tuna No I mean REALLY - make me feel sick
I try to drink as much water as poss, and am limiting myself to one fizzy drink a day (specially now they took away the 50p can machine and brought in an 80p bottle machine )
Now thing is, do I cut out bread all together, or just decrease it, like one granary bap a day with chicken salad in it, that sort of thing?
Where do you stand with cheese? Yay? nay? I'm guessing things like pastry (sausage rolls, that sort of thing) are in the same boat as bread?
I really have no idea - I remember ages ago something on the TV or radio about diests that says you can eat as much meat as you like - red meat, steak, chicken, sausages, bacon, etc with full fat mayo etc, as long as you don't have bread and other high carb (or any carb) foods... This right or wrong? I think it might even have been Stu who said it, maybe. I think he also said if you do it wrong, it can kill you

You are talking about the atkins diet which is zero carbs, I wouldn't cut them out completely. The bap ad chicken salad sound like a good starting point.

What works for me...
Cornflakes (not much milk), one piece of wholemeal bread/low fat spread with some grilled tomatos/mushrooms, glass of OJ for brekky
Lunch, tuna salad roll on brown (no mayo), Anything involving fish with as little sauce as possible, chicken wrap, chicken as a whole, egg mayo butty made with ultra-low-fat mayo. Stir Fry, Brown rice/peas/sweetcorn/chicken is quite nice.
Dinner, decent usual evening meal, usually chicken or beef + veg.
Try and avoid cheese, milk, anything with a really gloopy sauce, try and drink 2L of water a day. Raw carrot chunks, podded peas (very addictive) are both good to snack on, same as proper cereal bars, a handful of shelled peanuts, bananas are superb as well. And no pastry. Say no to pizza as well. If you must have kebabs, just not with sauce, and heavy on the salad. No bacon. And for gods sake stay off the beer (I don't)
Not saying all this is gospel, but as far as I'm aware, it covers the major groups, and works for me. I can comfortably drop a couple of pound a week with this, and it's okay to live with.
