Downsides of working out DAILY?
I am really getting adicted to working out at the gym and am wondering:
I am told and read everywhere that you should have a day of rest between workouts:
1) Is it a necessity?
2) Will i do damage if i dont rest?
Working different areas on different days is a tad tricky as the trainer has given me a schedule i would like to keep to so as nott to piss him off, also, theres not really enough equiptment to do it that way for an hour if you follow?
Advice greatly recieved.

Hi mate im in training also but i break it up between weights
and cardio work bit like this.
Monday- Swimming for an hour
Tuesday - Weight training (arms and stomach)
Weds - Swimming for an hour
Thursday - Weight training (chest and back)
Friday - Rest day where i just veg out and take it easy
Sat - light cardio work for an hour
Sunday - if i have time swimming.
To put it mildly im fooked but i need to stick to it because i need to pass the fitness test for the police.
I guess its a good idea to rest your body just so you dont run the risk of burning yourself out.
Hope this helps mate.

Oooooooopppppppppssssssss
Sorry mate just read the post properly and not in a mad rush at work.
In short yes its good to have a rest day because your body needs time to recover itself, think of this as a day to eat whatever you like with it be a KFC or Pizzahut whatever takes your fancy. This helps break everything up and it helps keep you motivated to working for your goals!.
Hope it all goes well fella!.

Stu, you don't need to have a rest between each workout. For me personally I can't do more than 3 days in a row though, as I overtrain and get tired.
Again, it comes down to how YOU feel. If you train 5 times a week on your current routine and you are ok then great, carry on. As you progress your routine will/may change and require you to take extra rest.
I think you are building a nice baseline, getting used to the gym and the routines. In a few weeks I''m sure you'll be ready for a change to up the intensity or the wieghts and then this may warrant the change in schedule.
But despite all this, bare in mind that for buidling size etc, muscles need time to rest and grow. For general circuit training which is not too intense on the muscles and is more fitness orientated then the rest needed in between is less as it is more cardiovascular exercise.

Excellent, so are we saying...
Instead of doing a mixture of CV and Resistance Mon, Wed, Fri:
I may benefit from:
Heavy weights slight CV on Mon, Wed, Fri,
And
Heavy CV slight Weight on Tue and Thursday?
Providing of course i feel ok and not to drained?
The bloody big pool we used is closed till the 28th and im at a loss for what to do on the old pool days.

Sterted last night with more resistance than CV, felt a bit sore and pumped up last night towards bedtime, feel ok today though...
The problem i have with CV training, bikes, rowers, climbers etc is i get bored by them and dont really "Feel" they do me any good, but i guess they are likely to be doing me some good for losing the belly....
Weights i actually enjoy, and i feel good pushing myself to failure on them.
