Had a routine a while back of going to the gym 3/4 times a week but it's got hard to fit in.

This calorie intake lark, I assume it is based on a general person in a general life?
The reason I ask is I do a very physical job so my body needs fuelling for that, needs more food and calories than the office job?

Bang me on the scales and do the size test's and apparently I am obese, my job is a 5 hour workout a day, I swim, cycle, play football and generally fitter than folks half my size, and age, how many calories does one need?

it's an average, just like your bmi being an average and not taking into account heavier set folks or athletes or powerlifters who are all considered "obese" as it's easy to write

Yea lifestyle has a lot to do it, that app I'm using asks about activity and lifestyle levels and whenever you do something physical it minuses it from calorie intake. For example I was flat out in the restaurant on Mother's Day last week and it worked out that I had to take an extra 545 calories.

It's based on your BMR.
Yes, you will have a higher BMR than a person sat on their arse all day and so you could eat more without neccessarily gaining weight.

BMI isn't very accurate and is quite general, it doesn't really take into account muscle, BF, very short and very tall people don't fair too well with bmi either.

I'm afraid you're both completely wrong. A calorie is not a calorie. It's not like the old riddle "what weighs more, a tonne of bricks or a tonne of feathers" 1600 calories of say lean meat, veg, and good fats is not the same as 1600 calories of processed high sugar/salt foods and chocolate. A calorie is mearly a measurement of energy a food contains. Around 4 joules off the top of my head. The way you're body breaks down the food also plays a part. Proteins are far, far harder to break down than carbs or fat, so your 1000 calories of protein actually only end up as 650-700 calories in the body by the time your body has worked to use it. Where as fats, which are easy to use end up as 980-990 calories. I'm afraid when it comes to diet there's far more involved than simple maths and calorie counting. You really need to eat the RIGHT things in the first place or there's no point in dieting at all. You also have to remember the body adapts to change. Cut your weekly calorie intake by 6000 calories and you'll loose a few pounds in the first week or two, but when your body realises that it's intake has been cut it will slow your metabolism and the rate you loose weight will rapidly decrease. Hense why people get disheartened and give up. Ignore BMI ratings and all that crap. I'm classed as overweight on a BMI chart but can run a 3 hour marathon, go figure!

i use the fitness app as well and lost a stone and a half in 2 months, it certainly makes you realise how many calories you really were eating before monitoring it.

Gone from 15st to 13.8 and i'm aiming for 12st no rush or it will only pile back on again.

drinking plenty of water does help esp when ice cold as your body burns calories warming it up lol

Whats your calorie intake set at then? Did you find you would lose a consistently or will it start to drop off?

I bought myself a bobble bottle so I'm drinking loads of cold water, 10+ cups a day.

I have been sticking to healthy foods, lots of soup, veg an salad. Good meats like chicken and fish and I've been cutting the carbs.

Going well so far!

Well done on the weighloss mate, might want try and alter your eating times aswell, earlier main meal time gives you body a bit more time use up whats stored. As above maybe a bit of HIIT cardio, or fasted cardio
