Well I didn't die yesterday....lol

Cramped up in legs at 15km on the ride which seriously effected my 5km run

Managed 2hrs, 10mins, 7secs in the end which was under my aim of 2h 15m, without the cramp hindering the last 6km of the ride and the whole 5km of the run I'd have easily been under 2hrs.... So thats the aim next time out

Fair play, l did the Mens Health Survival of the Fittest in Nottingham at the weekend 12km obstacle run, went round in 1:16:30 so was really happy,

I have a lot of respect for people like your self Steve as this kind of exercise is massive for those of us not used to doing it historically.

Whats your next event?

Not sure on the next 1... Ideally I need to loose another 3 stone (im 19 stone atm) and sort my cramping issue out (I put it down to cold weather)...
Will 100% be doing another as under 2 hrs is on the cards next time out..

well done on completing the first one..

Are you happy with how your bike is set up for you ? If your seat is a little too high you cannot get your heals down and that can lead to cramp. Could just be how you cycle but worth looking at..

by being able to push the peddle with your heals down it streches the calf out each rotation so less likely to cramp up..

HTH....

The thing with the cramp is it only happens when it's cold (mainly after a long steep down hill with the chill factor on my legs followed by a large up hill section, it never happens on the flat), I can go out and do 30 miles in the warm with no issue, 10 miles on a cold morning I get cramp. I'm going to try some long thermal socks under the lycra next to see if that helps. I won't be beaten lol.

Steven get a bit more salty foods in before next time because its a lack of salt in your system that causes cramp

Well done on finishing. Have you tried continuing to cycle whilst going downhill? No resistance just going through the motions. Another thing I used to do was stand in the pedals and stretch my hamstrings and calves during the downhill sections. Worth a try.
Don't worry too much about your weight either that will/should drop as you do more cv work. My ironman training partner many years ago was a 19 stone rugby player, he completed it too in Lanzarote.

Steve,

That's a brilliant time for your first Triathlon, I'm doing my first Duathlon in April, been training like mad last few months, if you shed that extra weight you'll be bloody lightning pal..!! I lost 4 stone since January 2012 and running is 100% better without the excess weight.....
