Idealy a trip to a good running store would be best. They should have equipment to find out your foot plant....pronation,supination or neutral. Whatever you may be fo beginners i'd always be a bit cautious and choose a shoe with plenty cushioning, especially if your a tad heavy
Bare in mind the lighter the show the shorter its life will be..........the lighest usually last around 60 mile, a racer/trainer around 150 mile and i reckon you'll probably only get 250 out of the best high miling shoe(if your a heel striker this will greatly reduce the shoes life)
Persnoally i use the saucony fastwitch and grid series. Have tried the asics gel nimbus but they are to supportive and aggrivate and old planatar injury.

Matt, ive just got it to 7k in 30 mins dead...
roughly
5 mins at 12 kph
up to 14.5 kph for another 10 mins
Burn at 16.5kph for 5 mins
Down to 12 kph for 5
then the remaining 5 anything from 14 up to 19 or 20 kph
fucks me up, and im drenched with sweat afterwards, but you really feel like you've worked out oretty hard
hence the need for decent footwear.. not the prettiest things to look at and they wont be worn anywhere other than on the treadmill

as predicted.....couldnt hack it pal
did 2m warm up then went to 15kph
was fucked and had to whack the cool down after 5 mins at that pace
i had just done my weights but i aint making excuses, was simply too fast for me at 15kph, think i'll stick to my routine and just increase slightly as time goes on lol to be fair though i aint looking for speed, more a stamina thing is what i want from running

Thats pretty quick chap... i've just started my running again properly after a month off due to holiday / quater close at work... - I'm waiting to hear on my marathon application
Best thing to increase speed is interval training from what i've been told, but it will take time to build up...

good stuff Matt....remember, I dont train before I run.. I alternate running and weights each day. I just turn up at the gym at lunch, change quickly, have a quick stretch and crack on with 30 mins on the treadmill... thats all I have time for as I have to be back on the desk
I am fooked afterwards though!
Tried incline running yesterday.. thats a killer... 25 mins killed me

24mins is great for 5k.. my best so far is 22:40 but its a killer and I HAVE to have a minute at about 8kph to cool down

The will video you running, analyse your running gait and fit you with some appropriate trainers. I did Biomechanics as part of my degree and can tell you these guys are GOOD!
They managed to sell me a Ł400 GPS running watch as well Its the BOLLOX! satnav on your wrist! It does soooo much stuff its mental!

Fuck that, only just started running, can do about 6-7 mins at 13kph then slow down to a jog and then bang it up again for a couple more.
Oh well, onwards and upwards.

Its amazing how much you lose in just 6 weeks
I suppose all the peroni and chocolate hasn't helped lol

Just over 30mins for 10k is real good....tbh thats definatly elite club running standard.
If i was fully race fit i could probably do 33/34mins on the road depending on the course, 10k its bit too short for me though....only just getting warmed up by then
What you might find will help your running is changing routine regular, try not to run the same pace all the time, try not to run the same route twice in 1 week, never do a loop that passes your house, its too tempting to chuck it in
