Mk2 orion power expectation
Right so I've been looking at various routes of making my orion faster I've looked that the zetec 1.8 and what can be done to it but that can get into 600+ just for the conversion parts alone, turbo engines are out of my price range but what sort of power could u expect from my 1.6 cvh if I fitted bike carbs a 4-2-1 manifold and a exhaust system also is there a camera upgrade available. I'm new to the Ford scene sorry if this is a stupid or repetitive question.

What is a camera upgrade?
I think fitting bike carbs is a recipe for pain, they are not designed for cars and unless you do something to the head and cams I doubt much power can be gained.
If you don't want to pay £600 then I would go with a really good service and make everything work perfectly and the exhaust and air filter...it will sound faster and make a small bit more power...maybe. After that, head and cams but probably a Zeta can swap would be more cost effective £ per bhp.
Speed costs I am afraid

Bike carbs are a good way of increasing fuel/air intake. They are massively better than twin 40s etc and sound awesome. However if you want to buy a kit off the shelf your looking at £400+ and you need them setup too. If you can do the work yourself it would save a fortune.
Buying a manifold and exhaust wont do much on its own really but combined with other mods will definately help
Loads of cam options available for the CVH, just depends on what your end goal is really. Head work is one way of gaining but again if you cant do it yourself then you will pay for it.
Just dont be expecting massive gains for little money

Yea I was thinking about bike carbs and a exhaust system and getting a spare head to get it ported and polished so I can build it in a day and possibly heterogeneous a lightened flywheel and a paddle clutch kit

from the amount of parts your on about getting price wise and for the gains you would see id say your best off just going for the 1.8 or 2.0 zetec conversion.
it would probably work out cheaper and make more power straight away

I went the Zetec route in the end. My old CVH had a big valve head, ported and polished, skimmed, high lift cam, bored out, blah blah blah.....
I just lifted it out and dropped the 2 litre Zetec in, bolted on the bike carbs and away i went! Very little wiring involved and the performance increase from a standard Zetec over the tuned CVH is vast

If zetec's ran a dizzy for the ignition I would put bike carbs in one and drop it in but I'm just put off by using aftermarket management I don't understand any of that I'm a bit oldskool when it comes to tuning

You dont need to be really clued in. I just ran a silver ESC module to control the ignition coil pack and vacuum advance. Not hard to wire in to the existing loom. Plenty on Google about it, if i can do it anyone can!
