Running badly after standard exhaust fitted. ECU remapped maybe.?
Hi all,
1992 XR3i 1.8 Zetec was running a Scorpion pipe with a 4 inch back box.
It was too noisy so I had a standard exhaust fitted recently.
Since then I found that she over fuels and doesn't rev out crisply especially when warm. Black soot on all 4 plugs.
I hear that its common for lads to chip/map the ECU when putting on a sports exhaust to boost power.
So here it is. I found a brand new ECU on Ebay and popped her in. When I took out the old ECU I noticed that all the detail including the reg number and colour of the car were written on the casing in marker which make me assume it was sent off for remapping.
Standard ECU is in now but she isn't running well. Jerking , dropping revs etc.
My question is.. Should a brand new ECU have to relearn its values and if so.. How long should it take to settle down.?
As usual, thanks all.

Thanks Richie.
Yes as far as I know she has a Cat.
I just heard that ECU's take a number of cycles to settle. Took her for a spin and she was perfect. Stopped at the lights and I had to slip the clutch the get her off. Jerking like mad and the idle died.
