Default 2" manifold heat wrap?

1992 Escort 1.8cc RQB ,130ps engine XR3i CabrioLet

Can anyone give me a clue on the wrapping of the exhaust down pipe from the manifold joint to the cat' con' box with 2" heat wrap. I seem to
recall when I fitted a new cat'con' and radiator last year that there wasn't much space between the down pipe, engine block and radiator to enable
enough hand access to wrap. May seem a daft question , but I've not been able to get to the cabby this year due to a major prob' with the big "C" and chemo. I've a mate who would help one Sunday morn, but I don't want him to travel 40mls each way only to find the job is basically impossible.
...........Thanks ......Rustler........"The Oldest XR3i Cabbier....

Wouldn't bother. Did my 3i years ago had to take manifold off. Was a horrible job. Went dry and crusty 6 months later. Spilt abit of oil on it so stunk of burning oil all the time. Pulled it off. NEVER again!

Thanks FORDMAD....Afraid it's necessary in my case, as we live in S/W France and the temp' is often up in the 39c range for days ... this leads to the cooking of the starter motors . I fitted the second very good quality "NEW" West Lancs Eng Ł 74. motor late last year ,the first one pronounced duff after only 18mths. It can be quite embarrassing if the car stalls at traffic lights, or when buying petrol and find it wont restart till the S/Mtr cools off, usually well over an hour or so. I've also purchased a Burton Power S/Mtr heat shield ,not yet fitted ,but I think the exhaust wrap is a must over here. Anyway how did you get on fitting the wrap initially , did you manage to do the job with the down pipe in situe or did you remove the exhaust first...
.......Thanks again .....Rustler..... "The Oldest XR3i Cabbier"...

I have done this a few times and in your case heat wrap is a good solution, try to buy as good a quality as you can as the fibreglass type that needs soaking can be a pain to use, its aways better to remove where possible as it makes fitment so much easier

...............Thanks again for your advice.... You've confirmed my suspicions
that as I seem to remember the down pipe is a tad to close to the rad' & block for comfort and that it must be the cheaper quality tape that people have had trouble with as many, many others say that a wrap is fine....
Will have to find somebody to do the job for me as for the next few months
it's a "NO GO" situation... Still haven't been able to remove the dash and fit a heater matrix..........may do it next year ,,,," IF ".....LOL !!!..
