Default Any info on "Starter Motor Heat Shields" ?

Hi...
I note that some where in the forum there is quite a screed on the overheating of "Starter Motors" . Apparently HAYNES do make reference to
a Starter Heat Screen in chapter ...5A * 7...par' 9..3 ) Is any one in
need of disposing of one of these or can shine some light on the design and
the material used in the OE items. I require some info' 'cause when the temperature is up in the 30s ( Here in S/W France) and we've been pushing the cabby up around 90mph , if we call into an Aire de Repose" for a short break ,then there's no way we can start the car for at least 1hr untill every thing cools down. (unless we Push it) !!!
Any info would be welcome ......Thanks in anticipation..

should not really make any difference unless its a budget item as quality of build mainly comes down to manufactur as they are all designed to withstand engine temperatures well in excess of 30d

Thanks PD....... If thats the case ,why did Ford fit these shields to some
Escorts and not others. Perhaps they were fitted to LHD vehicles designated
to the hottest areas of europe ? Any way in this part of France it seems to be a known prob'. according to some of the members of our "DUCK FORD"club , "The Prestige Ford du Sud Ouest"..(facebook, "Club Duck Ford")

Any way I do appreciate your interest and comments on this my problem,
but I'd still like to hear from anyone who could shine some light on these
Starter Motor Heat Shields........Thanks Again...

I have seen the heat sheilds before and most cars used to have them as standard even uk cars but if the starter motor was ever changed they were a pain to refit so most lazy sods just binned them, in warmer countrys the mechanics were more aware of the importance of refitting them and some even heat wrap them for prevention

I think that you've probably hit the right answer here PD. I didn't mention that
I've recently replaced the old "Cat Conv' with a sports cat and Magnex system
and generally improved the performance of the car overall . On really hot days when the cabby is being pushed hard for periods of an hour or so ,the engine
bay becomes so hot it's painful to handle the bonnet support. We will be heat
wrapping the new Exhaust Down Pipe shortly ,but would also like to fit a
Starter Heat Shield whilst I'm under the car.
Thats after I've removed the Dash Board and replaced that "Heater Matrix"
I've promised myself to do over the lay up period this winter !!!

always best to do a matrix while its warm weather before it becomes urgent when the cold comes, and heat wrapping is always best to confine and repel heat from unwanted areas as the OE tin shield that seperates exhaust from body can only exclude so much
