There's a site that you can go on top gear mentioned it a while back but can't for the life of me remember the name you put in any car make/model and it tells you how many are left it's fascinating. Try googling it sure you'll get the site from there.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Only 600 were made 4 wheel drive in each mk5 and 6. Some people will say there was only 500 made but this isnt correct. Theres very few mk 4x4s left and the same with the mk6s.
Go on (How many left.com) and it will tell you but not sure how accurate this is!

as above definately not 2000 4x4s made ,the number was approx 600 made in total of all MKs , for instance 250 mk5s 100 MK5bs and 250 MK6s = 600. and well over half of them are gone now be it through accident rust or broken for spares, and I think a realistic figure is around 120 ish still in circulation and my own moondust silver Mk6 4x4 is only one of a pair that are legal on the road today, as for 2wds there was many 1000s of them made and there are still well over a 1000 or more knocking about

the floor pans are totally different at the back to accomodate the rear diff / suspension
you could probably bodge a 4wd rear end onto a 2wd but it wouldn't be easy and would require a lot of thought and fabrication

deffo would be a bodge if so as looking at my 4x4 and a 2wd rs2k theres loads different, boot floor, shallower spare wheel well not to mention the prop tunnel!
