iphone help
I've just got an Iphone 3g 16gb jobbie. I can't get the internet or access any online applications unless i'm using my wifi. I was under the impression that the phone could connect via 3g pretty much anywhere. Is there a setting i need to tick or something?
And whats jailbroken?
All help appricated, only got the phone yestarday so i'm ripe for some flaming

I understand that 3g and wi-fi are different things. The wi-fi part works fine. If i'm at home or work or a wi-fi area and have the password it works and i can access the internet.
If i'm not in a wifi area or don't have the password but want to access the internet the iphone should do this via the 3g or edge network although it doesn't. This is the problem i'm having and wondered it anyone could take the trouble/time to talk me through. I can't even find a 3g menu on the phone?

The phone is brand new from apple (2 days old today) it has the white back and is a 3g 16gb.
I bought the phone direct from apple and am using my existing o2 contract sim. My old phone had 3g and worked fine via this sim. The iphone works well through my home and work wifi.

This may be of some help to you matey...

I don't have an iPhone myself so I am not able to speak from experience just seeing if I can help at all. You might find that someone will come along give you a definite answer soon but try the above in the meantime.

Thanks for the response chaps,
Doesn't belong, thanks, i've just read through that page and done everything. My sim cards last 4 digits contain 3g too
Jonzy, cheers fella went to that menu and those settings were already populated with what you have written above.
Still no joy though...
I think the carphone warehouse might need to send me an sms message with all the settings as an attachment or something similar. I had to get them to do that with my last phone so that i could go online. Sadly that part of the website is down and o2's won't let me use theirs as i took the contract out through carphone warehouse.
Carphone warehouse are totally bollocks at customer support but o2 are great even though i'm not a customer directly. I wish i took the phone out through o2 directly now!!!

bollocks to them wankers. Cock on the phone sounded like a milf with ashma. I'm going to send it back and buy it through o2 which is a shame as apple haven't done anything wrong but carphone warehouse/o2 won't support unless you purchasd the phone through them
Death to all carphone warehouse employees, and have a happy christmas too

It is all enabled. Because me contract is not directly through o2 and is through the carphone warehouse it won't work. Carphone Warehouse's o2 network won't support the iphone's 3g requirements. What i should have done was purchase the phone through carphone warehouse who then switch you over to o2 direct.
i will sell this iphone back to apple and with the money i get use to pay off the existing carphone warehouse contract then, take out a new contract direct with o2.
Total bollocks really mate

You can checkif your sim is 3g compatible by removing it from your phone and checking the last 4 digits. If it has 3g in the last 4 digits it's 3g compatible
Thanks for your help Tim will try those settings
