Default Sierra 3dr LS V8 track day car NOW SOLD

1987 Ford Sierra 3dr D reg £sold

I’ve taken the tough decision to offer my car for sale here as a complete car.

Owned over many years and developed slowly and extremely expensively (!) from bare shell re-build road car, then to track day car. A labour of love and continual work in progress, and a hard decision to sell.

My build thread is here (P9 onwards with current engine)

https://passionford.com/forum/restor...move-on-9.html

Over 11 pages; but most recent stuff with the LS V8 build from about P9 (the link above), but I’ll list the full spec here and some pics to save you the trouble. All pics taken today (20/09/15)

Originally a German 2.3D that I brought over with the help of a German colleague at work, reshelled into one of second batch of 909 rd car shells that I had, so this has undersealing, interior brackets etc. LHD. Registered as Ford Sierra 3dr (5.7L manual).

Shell/Chassis

Largely as road 909 spec; with carbon Delight carbon fibre roof to eliminate the sun roof, and save over 20kgs.
Custom Cages group A cage, plus diff mounting bars, and through bulkhead to front suspension turrets. Front bulkhead panel relieved slightly for engine clearance.
All original 3dr Cossie bodykit and glass etc. Rear ¼ glass and seal trim was new out of the box when I started the re-build.
Front bumper bolted and spaced for clearance
Arches cut back for wheel clearance
RS500 style brake duct grilles
RS500 style rear lower spoiler. Not certain on my part no’s whether original RS500, or later part cut for wing.
Fuel cap blanked off
Base model Lucas headlights and wing mirrors.

Leda custom valved short stroke front dampers (500/200 lb)
600lb 9” Falkner springs (1 month old)
Compression struts (no ARB)
WRC bearing and top mount via Tony @ Touring Car Spares, sitting on eccentric platform.
3dr Cossie hubs and TCA’s.

Ford 909 group A Bilstein magnesium rear dampers 300/150
375lb 14” springs plus helper springs and spring seats.
3dr Cossie rear hubs

Merkur (ZF) short ratio steering rack
Alloy bushed rack mounts
Custom power steering hoses
Custom steering column bearing

Mapped on V-Power
Currently run in and on second oil change.
JP Exhausts stainless exhaust 2.5” twin into 3” single exit (with centre box and back box)

Temporary fuse and relay panel fitted; but have just purchased lower dash centre console to panel that out and refit fuses, relay and kill switch etc. Job for the new owner!
Electric windows
3dr Cossie interior ¼ panels fitted as per group A regs and door cards also – cut for door bars.

Honest Assessment:

It's a total animal and requires balls and skills to get the most from it, so only wealthy driving gods need apply! The amount of torque and power still shocks me now.

Only just getting past shakedown mileage in current spec and working through the inevitable snags. There’s still a small things to work through such as completing the fuse/relay panel and wiring fuel gauge and so on, but nothing major. I’ve just purchased a LHD centre console and lower dash panel to compliment the existing dash, and it was my intention to flock this and re-house the relay and fuse panel into this (where a radio would normally be fitted). Will be incl in sale.

A couple of the gauges need wiring in, incl the new ATL fuel guage bought to match the ATL sender in the tank.

Fr tires are a bit on their shoulders, came with the wheels when I purchased them, but ok for road shakedown. Ideally would have looked to a wheel refurb and new tires over the winter.

As you can see, or may have read many, many parts are virtually new, or rebuilt. Vast majority of parts haven’t reach 1000miles of shakedown road mileage yet (engine, gearbox for starters!). If I stop and think about it for too long I might start crying!

Not a show queen, although judging by the interest at Oulton Park Gold Cup in classic car display the other week, clearly a big head turner in the flesh. Outside paint is good, with a few workshop marks here and there. I have a couple of dinks that I’ll get sorted with my local paintless dent remover when I can spare a day off. Interior paint is more workman-like than concours.

I don’t expect to get even half my money back on what it’s cost me. If you’ve built something similar before you’ll know it costs thousands just to equip a car in Goodridge hoses and alloy fittings top to bottom, let alone £2.5k gearboxes etc.

Value will be an emotive subject, so whilst it’s insured agreed value £25k, I’m offering it for £sold. It may offer someone a great reliable car as it is out of the box, or a great base to pop a YB in and move on the engine and get some money back. The choice is yours. Will look to get 12months MOT prior to sale – currently runs to mid Oct.

Please keep any comments specific to the proposition of sale, I don’t wish this advert to become a discussion of value or spec – many thanks in advance for that.

If you’re serious call me on 07977001837. Located in Cheshire 10mins from M6 J18 or 19, for prospective purchasers to view.
I've done my level best to write an honest description and offer plenty of photo's to compliment my description. Please call me if you have any further questions.

Cheers
Iain

Many thanks James.
Those engines are truly off the scale
Can't ever see me owning anything with that spread of torque for some time, if ever!
Cheers

Thanks for comments Gents.
Once you have such reliable and engaging torque & power it's hard to look back!
New owner has been parts gathering to do a similar build then mine came along ready done and of course much cheaper than doing everything from scratch.
Certainly will be going to a good home which is nice.
Going in for MOT on Monday so will have a full 12m for new owner.
Cheers for now
