1991 Escort RS Turbo - Black *Deposit Received*
1991 Ford Escort RS Turbo Custom Black. *Deposit Received*
This is an advertisement for a 1991 Escort RS Turbo in black – On offer on behalf of my father. If im honest, there is a degree of sentiment with regard to this sale as my very first RS was a 1991 registered black RS Turbo. Now sold, the opportunity to buy this was only to persuade my father to use it with me this year –easily done! , but since I sold my red S2 (on this site), it is surplus to requirements.
As it my rule I am offering her to a good home only with a range of options in specification. However, it is one of those cars which if not sold will go back into the collection as I personally feel its becoming a rarity in its genuine and original form!.
Before advertising, I have used it as often as possible so as become aware of any ‘issues’. It has been faultless during this time, starting on the button, hold or cold.
Introduction:
The car is a full custom, late registered 1991 model which includes a factory fitted slide and tilt sunroof, central locking, heated front screen, (fully operational).
The car has covered 84,000 miles, (will go up with its continued use) documented by a very good service history. This includes the original service history book stamped up to 42,000 miles by Ford main dealers and supporting MOT’s thereafter.
The car has only had 4 previous owners, all of which I was able to document through the history in the cars file. The car is totally standard, never been chipped, maintains it original boost hoses and a mild steel exhaust!
The car still maintains its Ford door locks (not a fan of delocked doors) with the original key including the petrol cap!
Original features include:
• Original torch light key, plus spare
• One Key fits all (inc. fuel cap)
• Corrello Front fog driving lights
• Original Ford amber indicators and side repeaters.
• Genuine Ford spot light brackets
• Original glass with keycode stickers and registration etching
• 15” Series 2 alloy wheels (spare with Goodyear NCT50 – OEM tyre)
• Original Ford Boost & Ancillary hoses, every jubilee clip is Ford!
• Period Ford mudflaps front and rear (original moulded type)
• Period Ford rubber mats, front and rear
• Correct model/original standard radio & speakers
• Uncut parcel shelf
• Original dealership number plates, window sticker (Doves Ford, Andover)
Optional items:
• *optional x4 Goodyear NCT OEM tyres*
• *optional genuine Ford Headlight protectors*
History:
The vehicle was registered 27th March 1991 by a Ford main dealer, Doves Ford, Andover. All VIN numbers are matching and correct albeit that there are a few digits are difficult to see due the common seat mount area being previously repaired. The engine is however the original according to its number corresponding to the original documents. The car is supplied with a clear HPI certificate which I did at the point of purchase. The car comes with history including past receipts, all Ford operator guides inc. audio equipment in a Ford main dealer wallet.
The substantive owner was a ‘mature’ gentleman who purchased the car from a performance specialist (documented) when only 3 years old. They registered the car themselves, accounting for one owner This gentleman I was able to trace and speak to, confirming he owned the car for 16years, using it as often as he could but otherwise garaging it. Any works needed to the car inc. MOT and servicing were done by the only person he trusted - his long term friend. However, when he died, the RS owner decided to sell as in his view this trust could not be obtained elsewhere!
Engine/Turbo/Gearbox:
Both the engine and gearbox are standard and in superb working order. I have been tempted to strip and clean, which I may do if this does not sell, but until then gives me another excuse not to! Instead I have recently serviced it inc fully synthetic oil, NGK plugs, rotor arm and distributor cap. I took the opportunity to give it a health check at this time inc. compression test etc, all of which I was happy with. All the above have been done approx 100 miles ago. Otherwise the the RS has had a recent timing belt and fuel filter change. I did replace the knock sensor also (The picture shows me having removed this!). The airbox is original with standard filament panel filter.
With the above in mind, the engine can only be described as superb, totally standard and very responsive to throttle! The engine is very quiet for a CVH, testament to its regular servicing and previous owners driving style! The exhaust is clear of smoke etc on start up e.g. no sign of oil stem valve seal issues
The gearbox is excellent, replaced due to the LSD failing. Clutch replaced at this time. Linkage is very nice too, very positive and precise gear change (no crunching in reverse!) If im to pick at fault here, it does appear to have a weepy gearbox seal on the n/s, which after a decent run will allow a drop or two of oil to drip - otherwise local journeys seem to be uneffected.
The turbo I checked – absolutely no play but has been replaced with an air cooled S1 until. According to the previous owner, this was strongly advised ‘back in the day’ to help reduce engine coolant temperatures! No shaft play at all – boosts nicely
Suspension:
Original specification inc standard ride height springs.
Nice and firm, handles beautifully,
Exhaust:
Choice of three!
1. Standard mild steel pipe
2. Magnex 4”
3. Scorpian 3”
Interior:
The interior is standard zolda 90 spec - excellent with no rips or tears in the recaro trim. All bolsters are intact and firm – always protected with seat covers. Door cards are decent – has minor sagging.
I have removed the interior this weekend and given it a clean with Autoglym products
Also has original and uncut parcel shelf
In Car Entertainment:
Original/Period Ford radio, standard/original speakers (not quite Harmon Kardon quality .
Exterior: * Please note front bumper dropped for cleaning and realigned since photos!*
The car was involved in an ‘altercation’ with a deer in 2003 which damaged the drivers side wing. This resulted in a replacement wing, bonnet, headlamp and indicator, paint as necessary to make good. The repair is excellent in my opinion – when viewing the car, I was confident that the wings were original as the spot welds were as they should. Otherwise, all the panels are original,
There is evidence that the car has been painted previously to maintain its condition and appearance. I am really picky about paint finish and in the context of the cars age and its use, its very nice! Quality of re-spray overall is very good in my opinion. However, there is a ‘drip’ effect mark on the N/S wing and the rear bumper has suffered the odd scuff mark from loading/unloading. Again not noticeable. – me being picky again. There are some masking marks on the corners of the kit and a paint 'bubble' on the drivers side door. There is also the obligatory stone chipping on the lower area’s of the kit.
Otherwise, the car is very straight indeed:
The battery tray has been repaired/replaced to an acceptable standard, fuse box area and inner wings are very good No water leaks!
The doors and panels are free from rust with the exception of a small bubble on the NSF wing meeting the bumper but the camera wasnt as picky as I in picking it up for you to see. Arches are excellent as are rear quarter drain sections.
The tail gate inside and out is rust free, inc the spoiler and rear wiper areas :
The roof is superb and without fault!
I have spent considerable time restoring/maintaining the paintwork with quality products such as Maguires, Poorboys etc, which now compliments how straight the body work is. I will however do this once again for the new owner
Underside:
As is common on these vehicles, it has had welding . However, as this was completed to a high standard, so should not re-occur and cause issues in the future. The underside of the car has been rust proofed and treated to ensure this is the case. I have had the car inspected for its pre MOT and was complimentary to past work Floors are excellent /albums/v74/mungus/floor2.jpg[/IMG]
Brakes:
Factory Standard rears with black painted drums. Standard ABS still fitted and working
Wheels:
Factory Standard original spec – Showing a few minor marks now but still very presentable. Tyres are all good, matching directionals on the front, Michelin’s on the rear
Security:
Fully functional factory central locking, plus cat 2 immobiliser
I like to be as accurate as I can be in my descriptions so I trust that whilst this vehicle is not to concourse standard, it will interest genuine enthusiasts such as myself and those wanting a vehicle to show for the forthcoming show season. The new owner I am looking for will appreciate the vehicle for what it is and the potential it has as with the history and condition
I trust that following the depth of this advertisement, viewers will appreciate that I have been as honest as I can. The opinions are mine and will appreciate those whose views would differ, but in context of the vehicle age, condition and its previous daily use, not to mention how I value it! Im sure I have missed out bits, please feel free to ask anyway!
The car will be presented with a brand new MOT and has tax until October 2010
Photographs are recent
Asking price is Ł3500.ono. I would be tempted with a Sapphire Cosworth or RS1600i
I can provide an alternate spec if required – i.e. chip, samco hoses etc, but a standard car is a rarity today – so would be a shame imo to modify
Would appreciate some feedback on this, particularly with the asking price as the feedback I have had previously seems to be that ‘I give these away’

Im still suprised yours is still hanging around looking for a new home. Did take to that.
If this doesnt go, its not going to cause a tantrum..... but the idea of a Sapphire, 3 door or even Esc Cos is tempting me. Was even thinking of offering the daily runner to finance it. Only live once
You sorted out your running issues with the cos now?

Nice car! Can't beat a standard S2 in black! Mines just been sold unfortunatley for a fair bit less than yours but I needed the money Get passed all the idiots who will inevitably offer you 2k for it " cos thats what they go for on ebay " etc. and you'll probably sell it to the first serious person to see it. Good luck!

Really good advert as usual. With me being on the hunt for a (diesel daily driver) car at the moment, its a rarity so read an advert laid out and as detailed as yours. I think I've wasted the best part of a week looking through non-descriptive adverts so far
I wish I could justify buying this but I need an estate - good luck with the sale.

Hi Smila,
In which case, you may have missed out. No rust issues needing attention, not paintwork to rectify. I think ive mentioned above - if im critical, the rear bumper has the odd 'loading' mark and the lower parts of the rear kit are stone chipped - as expected but otherwise, get in, turn the key and drive you can do!
Totally HPI clear too
