One thing that's good to do is use some TipEx or something to mark where the flexible coupling splines line up with splines on the steering rack. Saves you a lot of buggering around trying to get the steering coulum straight again at the end. Maybe take a pic of how it was before you started too!

Start with the steering wheel dead straight, and lock it in place if need be...not essential...

If you hate yourself (cos it's an annoying job), it's a Good idea to do the steering column bush at the same time if you can be fooked. Makes the car feel nice and tight again. You can buy new bushes for a few quid on EBay.

Was a horrible job to do...but bearing in mind you have the column apart anyway, is worth doing. Definitely get the workshop manual (PDF CDs available online) for this one as safety is obviously paramount ESPECIALLY where your steering is concerned!!!
