Bout time for an update, I haven't bothered in a while as I've been quite busy. The car has got a hell of a lot further since my last post. Practically all the welding is done now, most of the prep work, so we are not TOO far away from primer. But still far enough..
We started making the front part of the cage..
We decided to use 2" steel piping, slightly heavier than usual, as I think it looks better. However the front just didn't look right, so we cut it out along with the mounts, and decided to go with just the rear cage. Should still give more than enough support, it's not a track car.
Made the front seat mount brackets..
Started welding up the front end. I have to totally take back what I said about the front reproduction wings being good. They are absolute shite, fit awful, nothing lines up correctly an we've had to seriously modify them to make them right.
Fitted new pans and pan supports, with all the strengtheners.
Welded on the drip rails.
One thing I hate on Mk1's is the rear grille's, you can't get in there to tidy them up, an they are always full of shit and overspray, so we cut mine out to get the inside all clean and tidy.
Well worth the extra effort to be honest. They were painted the color of the car before we welded the grille's back up.
I'm currently running the 2WD manifold on my Cossie engine, but the standard cast manifold purely let's it down, as it just rusts. So I decided to get mine Thermal Sprayed in Copper. Did think about doing it in Aluminium, but obviously it has a much lower melting point, an would probably burn off at high temperature.
Still need to get them polished. If they look shit, then I'll strip it back again. I plan to get a custom stainless one made very soon anyways, but I think this will look much more improved.
I've been buying quite a few new bits lately as well, I'll post some more pictures as soon as they upload.
