I would not recomend you touching the ABS system.
However, there is a road speed signal from the gearbox to the ecu which will provide a suitable signal for the dash and will not introduce any safety issues if there is a problem.
I dont have any information on these connections though.

Unfortunately I don't have the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the gearbox anymore, i've got a different final drive in there and it fouled the sensor and so we had to remove it.
What are the potential implications of splicing into the ABS sensor?
